Second Day Shopping

I am very thrilled to have to had the privilege to go on this trip. We got to go to three museums, and one, The OMSI, was my favorite. It is so hands on and there are lots of games to play that focus on teaching in a fun way. My mother is a special ed teacher and she would have loved it! We also got to go to a movie about Lewis and Clark, and to go on a tour of a submarine. It must have sucked to squish in a small submarine for sixty days at a time, with no sunlight or clean clothes and almost no opportunity to shower, but it got me thinking about whether I should be on the Navy or not. It sounds very fun to volunteer for the army for sixty days, with gourmet food, ice cream, and to play with explosives, in spite of the risks they had. After OMSI, I went to Portland for some last minute souvenir shopping. I bought a CD at a record store, a bow tie, and a mask from an antique store. I loved the trip to Portland and hopefully we could go on another similar trip!

Last day here.

Today was the last full day we had in Portland. And it was one of the best days of the trip in my opinion. We woke up at our individual host families, ours made us waffles, and then met up at Jill's house before heading off to OMSI. While at OMSI we went on a tour of the submarine in Hunt for Red October. It was a super cool experience seeing all the gadgets, bunks and such. After we saw the sub we went to the building room and played with all the hands on exhibits. Leah and I built a skate park, we were really, really good at it. After that we went and saw a movie on Lewis and Clark in an IMAX show so intense it made me dizzy. Than we all packed up into our cars and went to down town Portland one more time, where we finished up shopping and ate at an amazing BBQ food cart. I'm sad the trip is ending but so happy it happened.

Today I had a great time with my friends strolling the streets of Portland and visiting the OMSI.
The OMSI was a really cool place. We got to tour a submarine that was used in the movie, Hunt For Red October, then we went to down town Portland were I went to a fantastic record store and antique shop where me and my friends all got masks and bow ties.
I am disappointed the this trip is over. I am really exited for the trips to come.
I want to say thank you to every one who helped make this trip possible. Thank You all!

Portland Oregon.

Today, was our last day in Portland Oregon. The activities we participated in were extraordinary. The part I enjoyed most was walking around town walking in the cheap little stores down town.
For lunch we walked by food stands that were cheaper, and also better. The buildings here are so nice, and so clean. A lot of the streets have recycle trash cans. Most of the streets do not have garbage all over. The people there are very fashionable. I wish the transportation system where I live was more like the way Portland provides their transportation. We also went to OMSI museum. We went is the U.S.S Blueback submarine that has entertaining history that was interesting to listen too. It is our last day here, and I hope we can come back next year.

Our fantastical journey in this wonderland.

Today was a good day. We partied in the car, it was good. As we drove to the Omsi Museum we waved and said 'hello' to random people. Once we got to Omsi museum we went into the submarine and explored the squishy situation. We learned a lot about why and how the submarines were built. The tour guide for the group I was in was really funny. After we finished with the submarine we went to the ride thing and watched a video. Then we went into the dome theater and watched a Lewis and Clark movie that we had already watched in Bev's class. Then we went shopping, it was cool.

Lewis and Clark Focus Day

What a day! We got a late start today after various delays, but finally made it on the road to Seaside to see the Salt Works, the site where Lewis and Clark sent 3 men to make salt for the return trip, and then to Astoria to see Fort Clatsop, where the Lewis and Clark Expedition stayed the winter in 1805-'06.

After the Fort, we went into downtown Astoria and split up for lunch. Some of us had fish and chips at the best place-Bowpicker. Their fish was Albacore Tuna instead of cod and it was delicious!! We ate outside since the Bowpicker was actually a fixed up fishing boat.

After lunch, we took the kids across the Astoria Bridge (@4miles long!) into Washington. We were really excited when we thought we saw a whale, but then were really disappointed when we realized it was only a large log floating by. Once in Washington, we turned around and headed back into Oregon.

We visited the Astoria Column, a tall tower with 164 spiral steps. The students ran all the way up! On top on the observation deck, some of us were able to fly some balsa wood gliders. One stayed up for several minutes! It was so fun to watch! Some students were so excited to see the gliders being thrown off the top of the tower, they started asking about other various items they might be allowed to throw. After getting "no" repeated to them until we sounded like a broken record, they stopped asking and just went down the stairs.

From there, we drove the 2 hours back to the beach house where the students went back to spend some time on the beach. We thought tonight would be warmer than last, but the wind was stronger, making it colder. The students did have fun, though, swimming and collecting what appeared to be jelly fish eggs. I'm not sure what they were exactly so will have to see if I can google it.

We came back to the beach house where Evan had cooked dinner for everyone! Taco salad with yummy carne asada. Thanks Evan! We also had time to sit in the hot tub and watch Indiana Jones!

Tomorrow, we head into Portland to sight see and explore!

Wednesday

As we started out the day I woke up at about 4:45.We got in the cars and fell asleep listening to my friends conversations. As we were driving across the bridge to Washington, I smelt the fresh air and high fived one of the light workers. As we got back and got to this tower.I got up to the top and watched as McKay and Wendi threw their planes off.As soon as we got back we went straight to the beach as I watched as my friend get married to his fiance, then jumped in the freezing cold water and found baby jellyfish. Then finished out the night by getting in the hot tub and watching Indiana Jones.
